John Bitoy is GSM’s newest faculty member.
John Bitoy is a Chicago based pianist who started playing at the age of nine, and has had the opportunity of being able to perform solo recitals across the county. He has also done guest lectures and performances on Arabic music and minority representation in music at the University of Chicago and Smith College. He has an undergraduate piano performance degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), and masters degree at DePaul also in piano performance. He received the piano division award at UIUC, and has won four first place prizes and two second place prizes in the Great Composer Competition Series; all of which spanning from 2017 to 2018. In addition to classical music, he also enjoys experimenting with other genres such as gospel, jazz, neo soul, R&B, and pop. He aims to successfully teach and develop fun and engaging music spaces for students of all backgrounds, skills, and ages.
John’s teaching experience includes mentoring children ages 10 – 16 at Change 4 Children in Chicago during Summer 2014 , a private piano teacher in Oak Park, IL from Fall 2016 – present, and Piano Educator at Solo Classic School, Buffalo Grove, IL from Summer 2018 – present.
His performances include: Solo and Chamber recital at the Montecito Music Festival, 2014, the Annual Rhode Island solo recital, 2013 – 2018, DePaul Wind Symphony, 2017 and DePaul Concert Orchestra, 2018.
